Miami Grand Prix qualifying starts at 4pm local time (9pm BST) using the regular Q1, Q2 and Q3 knockout session.

After watching the hosts put on an entertaining show at the Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami on Friday, it was time for the drivers to take centre stage.

It was an unusual sight to see the new Miami International Autodrome bathed in glorious sunshine as it has rained torrentially for much of the week.

But with the track dry for FP1, the drivers headed out for their first taste of the 5.41km circuit.

Only one driver failed to set a time in FP1. That was Aston Martin driver, Lance Stroll, whose car stopped on the exit of Turn 17.

It was a promising start for the two home drivers, Logan Sargeant and Alex Palou, as they finished 15th and 19th respectively.

But it was George Russell who topped the timesheets, ahead of team-mate Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

As expected, it was a tight battle at the top of the timesheets in qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix.

On a circuit that is notoriously difficult to overtake on, a good qualifying position is essential.

Q1 saw the five slowest drivers eliminated, including Stroll, who failed to set a time in FP1.

Q2 was even more competitive, with the top 10 drivers separated by just 0.2s.

In the end, it was Verstappen who took pole position, ahead of Sainz and Russell.

Hamilton will start fourth, ahead of Alonso and Perez.
